SurgeryViews: 122

I had my surgery on Thursday 10/16/08 to remove a mass from my back area. It was located close to my spine but sat on the back of my rib. The surgery went real well they didn’t have to get in the chest wall this time so that means they didn’t have to get into my lung and thats always good for the recovery time. I only spent two days in the hospital which was great cause the food isn’t always good in there. Well now I just need to followd up with the radiation and I’ll be back on the path to recovery.

Good to hear the surgery went very well. You’ve got a great attitude——-thinking about the hospital food. That would be a big concern for me, too. :) Keep it up!

So glad to hear your surgery went well & you are home recovering. Take good care of yourself and let us know how the radiation goes.

Be well,

Monica

I’m glad to hear your surgery went well. Rest plenty and take care!

Well that’s a relief that your surgery is over and you are on the mend. Good luck on your radiation that follows. You sound so positive and brave. You are a strong man.
Take care of yourself and get a some well needed rest for the your upcoming treatments.

Well, I go into surgery yet another time on thursday of this week to remove another tumor this one isn’t quite as big as the last one but I’m sure it will still hurt. Maybe the pain will go away after this one is removed.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and support.

I will pray for you that your surgery will be successful and without much pain. Please keep us updated on how you’re doing.

Yuyu

You will be in our thoughts and prayers as you endure yet another surgery. I hope your pain is minimal & you heal quickly.

Many blessings to you and yours,

Monica

You are in my prayers as well.

I’m really not one to blog but it seems like a good way to maybe get some things off your mind and maybe get your thought together in some what of an organized way. I’m really not sure how blogging works but from what I understand you just say whats on your mind. One thing great about this site is we all have something in common. In one way or another we are all connected by the horrible this horrible this horrible disease CANCER. There are many different kinds of cancer. My name is Doug I’m 29 from alabama. June 6 2005 was the day. The day I under went a surgery for a tumor that grew for no one knows how long. It grew from my back into my chest wall into my lungs and ribs and almost into my spine. The tumor was about the size of a softball. I had no idea of what was in store for me in the future. The surgery went well. The tumor was almost fully removed only microscopic fragments still existed. The tumor had to be taking and cut up and sent to different places for testing. I didn’t have any idea it was going to be cancer. I never thought being so young and healthy that it could ever be cancer. Everything went so fast before I knew it the oncologist was meeting with me in the hospital before I even had time to recover. She told me I had a rare type of cancer, EWING’S SARCOMA. I was scared to death didn’t know how to act at all. She was telling me all about the type of cancer that I had and the treatments we were going to go though. All I could think is that it was over and thats it. It was the weekend of the fourth of july when my port was put in. I didn’t 18 cycles of Chemo. I did well. There was bad times but I did real well with it. I was able to return to work almost a month after my Chemo was finished I was very lucky everything seemed to be looking good for me. The surgery left me with a numb right side and a little bit of pain but other than that everything seemed fine. I have worked now for over a year since my last chemo. August of this year (2007) was a year. I have been back for numorous check-ups and scans and for over a year everything has been fine. Until recently the doctor told me about 2 weeks ago that she has seen another spot close to my spine that she was really worried about. I did a biopsy, bone scan and pet scan and as of Friday I am no longer in remission. My cancer has returned. I’ll have to undergo yet another surgery followed up by a month of radiation, which I am not looking forward to. Well thats it for now. I’ll write some more later. It’s nice to find a spot where you can share things with others which have similar experiences.

Hi Doug,

Welcome to the family! You will meet all types of people with all types of cancer and you are free to express whatever you feel. This is the first blog site I’ve ever been a part of and it’s like keeping up with new friends. To have been in remission for so long seems like a good sign to me. I hope the surgery this time around will be simple and you will be in remission again soon. Stay in touch; we will be thinking of you.

Hi Doug…

So glad you found us! I was diagnosed with cancer in January & just recently stumbled upon this site about a month or so ago. Boy, am I glad I did! I have never blogged in my life, but I’m getting pretty good at navigating my way around now. :o) This place is full of amazing, warm & loving people.

Welcome and know that we are all here for you.

Monica

Doug,
I admire your fighting spirits. We are all here to support each other. Welcome.
Yuyu

Well sorry about that. I wrote to you then pushed become a supporter and wiped out my message. Basically, want to welcome you to the best blog going. YOu will definately find friends here who care and are willing to listen and respond. I am curious about a couple of things. Where did they biopsy you and what are of the spine will you be having surgery? I have it in my spine but am being treated with a couple of various drugs. Do you have any pain? Obviously I am asking to compare notes a little. My Oncologists do not want to biopsy as they don’t feel they can easily find it or they might have to take out too much without guarantee of getting any of it to test to make a positive diagnosis. They say it is likely metastisize from my breast but it could also be arthritis or an old back injury. So for now I have no pain so I am content to dream that it is not metastisizd. I am on a drug that takes away all my estrogen and also a drug for bones. Just curious. Thanks/.
